- Chemist- Rocket Propulsion
Location: Norfolk, commutable from Norwich
This is a rare chance to join a growing team at the forefront of rocket propulsion. You’ll be part of a specialist group working on energetic materials, helping to take chemical processes from lab scale right through to industrial production.
In this role, you’ll be immersed in the research and development of high-performance propellants and related materials. Some days you’ll be manufacturing and testing research samples, while on others you’ll be analysing results, refining processes, and ensuring everything meets demanding safety and quality standards. Your work will feed directly into the design and manufacture of rocket motors and related systems giving you the opportunity to see your contributions come to life in a truly unique setting.
It’s a role that blends hands-on lab work with problem-solving and collaboration. You’ll be working closely with engineers, production teams, and other specialists to ensure materials perform under extreme conditions. At the same time, you’ll be building your own expertise, with opportunities for specialist training, conferences, and mentoring.
What you’ll need:
- A degree in chemistry or a related subject (MSc/PhD preferred, but not essential)
- 3 years + experience of working with rocket propulsion technology
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply complex information
- Experience with research methods, including reviewing academic papers and applying findings in practice
- A logical, independent approach with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Practical lab or manufacturing experience, ideally with energetic or complex materials
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to present findings clearly
- A strong focus on safety and compliance (COSHH and chemical hygiene practices)
In return, you’ll get a competitive salary, benefits including pension and healthcare, and equity options
